By creating a Toy Company for students in third grade plus, the students experience the choice companies make to run a successful business. As make-believe employees, students design toys for the international marketplace. When overseas competition escalates, students weigh options to keep the company in business, including layoffs and restructuring. Students become invested in creating and marketing toys in the attempt to save the company from being moved overseas.

Engages students in problem solving, they develop literacy skills as they access texts, build on prior knowledge and understanding and use “literacy skills” to make sense of content.

Unit includes: Teacher’s Handbook, 35 Student Portfolios and Content Cards. Student use portfolios to read, write, conduct
research and complete activities to demonstrate progress. The portfolios provide the teacher with an ongoing assessment of
